Since we've been quiet for the past few days, I was wondering what style of music/rhythm you prefer and who's you favorite artist(s).

Being a percussionist first and a dancer second, I find I like dancing to EVERYTHING because I can always find a beat. Over the holiday(s) I got addicted to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's version of Carol of the Bells. I will eventually be posting this to youtube!

Other songs I been playing with lately: Ice Queen by Paul Dinletir (who DOESN'T like this song????); He's a Tramp (from Lady and the Tramp....with cane nonetheless!); Sahirrnee by George Abdo (a sword choreography my mother and I wrote)

as far as songs I been listening to for fun, I have been on another showtune kick: the Original Cast Album of Sweeney Todd (with angela Lansbury!); Original Cast recording of Into the Woods (Bernadette Peters); Motion picture soundtrack of RENT; and Moulin Rouge (couldn't convince my mother to let me write an Isis Wings choreography to Fly Away)

Lots of darkwave, industrial agro-techno, anything where they fidget with their drum machine and a MOTU box and say " AHA! I have created yet more techno-y goodness!"
And Cab Calloway's "the Lady with the fan" it fits much more towards cabaret, but the title explains it.

Live drummers, of course. The song from Xerxes' tent in 300.
I LIKE MUSIC! that just about covers it.

Oh and being a floutist, I like have a good melody with those drums.

    Farid al Atrache!
But most of his I just want to sit and listen.

Abdel Halim Hafez, Om Kolthoum, Mohammed Mounir, Fadl Shakr

I've been infatuated with "Ally Gara" and "Wahashtini" lately. I freakin flipped when Soraya (big Cairo dancer) danced to Wahashtini - I was enthralled and in tears - she's incredible!

For Shaabi, Sa3d "Al Hantour" al Sougheer. There's this other Shaabi song I got hooked on from Arabic music channels, but i haven't tracked down the song. LOADS of Shaabi was falling in love with in Cairo, but for the life of me, I don't have the artists. Great fun - cab drivers were amazed we loved it and asked for it.

For pop, Nancy Agram, Samira Saeed, Ragheb Alama, Elissa, host of others.

For Oriental, my own compilation cd. ;)
Many orchestras are just grand - Samasem's orchestra was great. But nothing like hearing the music live and real - nothing. You MUST go to Egypt to hear a real Egyptian band playing the music. Just incredible!
